I'll be on a business trip to Vancouver and Portland from the 1st to the 9th of August. I'll have early mornings, long evenings, and two weekends to photograph with. I'm really interested in waterfalls and creeks around the Portland area, and I guess I'm looking for some free tips from you knowledgeable folks. For instance, is there a spot you wouldn't want to miss this time of year? Is the some high country camping that would be worth while? Is there a specific waterfall that would be a good morning trip for my non-photographer cousin and me?
Also, I'll be especially free on the 7th, 8th, and 9th if anyone would be interested in just meeting up for coffee, or a morning/evening, or an overnight trip.
Thanks in advance for all your help, and if you need to grill me because you think you could give more useful advice if you had more info, feel free.
The flowers on Mt. Hood should still be good this year, that'll be a little over an hour from Portland. Try the 6 mile hike to Paradise from the Timberline lodge for the best meadows.
I'm not a Oregonian, but I recently finished a 5 day trip in Oregon and if you want to be close to Portland and photograph waterfalls and creeks you should head east on I-84 to the Columbia Gorge. (About 30-40 minutes from Portland.)
There's a whole lot of waterfalls along that scenic route that you can just drive by, shoot and drive to next one. Just to name a few easy ones to get to would be Multnomah (the tourist trap), Wahclella Falls, Ponytail Falls. More beautiful waterfalls are out there, but require some hiking like Fairy Falls, Elowah Falls, Oneonta Gorge and Wahkeena. You might also consider Ramona Falls as well in the Wilderness.

Hope that helps.
