I had a visit this evening from the kids next door to say that they had found a weird bat hanging in their garden, I went to investigate and nearly rolled around laughing when they showed me this Poplar Hawkmoth on their apple tree ! They were incredibly interested though and I later sent them off with one of my moth books to find some rarer ones, should keep them out of mischief for a while ! I am pleased they did let me know though as I have never seen one in daylight, let alone photographed one.
Thanks for looking,
Lewis.

Great capture and very astute of you to stimulate the childrens' interest further. UKNP participants of the future perhaps?
Nicely done Lewis. It is in deed a great way to get the grand kids interested.
Its not all of them that ever get the chance to see something like this and it ought to be a part of school in my opinion.
Exactly ! It used to be part of school in the old days- but now the world's a better place !!!!!

Yes, it is a shame, seems that education has only recently gone that way though, when I was at school in the 90s we had a very popular "nature club" running, I guess it also depends where you go to school and if the teachers are interested (most aren't). I think most of my passion for natural history came from one of my primary school teachers, dear old Mrs.Otterway !
Cheers,
Lewis.
PS. The youngsters didn't find anything else, but I am setting my moth trap tonight, so we'll see what we get in the morning!
