I think it is a great opportunity to have one or even several events in the CSNP region.
I would be happy to organize something here in north Texas or southern Oklahoma. Early October might be too soon for good fall color, but we should have nice weather. Either a day trip or even a weekend campout would work.
The Wichita Mountains NWR (near Lawton, OK) would be a great location that comes to mind.
How about some input on some other possible destinations we could do that first weekend in October.

The San Juans sounds good Bill. I am already scheduled to be in Estes Park on the 6th and I could probably talk my wife in to leaving a couple of days early. I've not shot in the San Juan's before; is there usually good color there in early October or is it on the downside?
If I can't get out of town early then I'll likely try to make some images of Kansas color for the event. I would be happy to organize an outing for the Kansas natives.
Thanks for getting this started Darren. I hope it picks up steam and becomes a huge success!

Bill-
The San Juans will be about peak color then. For those that could go it would be a great destination.
I'll need to stay fairly close to home that weekend as I'll be heading to Vermont the following one. So I would be more on the lookout for a location that was weekendable from Fort Worth.
I was considering a trip to the San Juans this fall. I don't have definite dates nailed down, so could probably coordinate my schedule to participate.

So anyone interested in some sort of event for NPNNAD? Seems like the perfect excuse for something. I'd be happy to help organize or meet up in north Texas or southern Oklahoma.
Anyone interested?

First off I'd like to thank Darren for being the impetus behind this NPN wide event. For those of you who don't know, Darren was the one who posted the original discussion thread suggesting the event. I think it's a great idea and hope everyone can get out on (or around) October 4th and make some images to share.
Some of our group I know will be on the road shooting in Colorado and I for one will have to shoot around Kansas City. With such a strong contingent of Arkansas photographers I'm hoping one that one of you will organize an AR event to coincide with the NPNNAD.
Darren has offered to organize a small group event in Texas, would anyone else be willing to organize the AR event?

As much as I would like to go to Colorado, I'm banking on a spectacular fall in the Ozarks this year. So I will need to ration my days off and unforunately can't do both. Since it looks like I will be hanging close to home, I'd be glad to organize something in Arkansas if anyone's interested.
Thanks for the offer to organize an event in your area, Darren.

I was hoping for a bit more interest from folks to be expressed here.
I am planning on being out that morning here locally in DFW for the morning. I'd like to be able to make it to Colorado or Arkansas but that will not work my schedule. So a morning in a local park it is. I have some local camera club folks who will meet up with us so there will be a group.
Drop me a line if you are interested.

I started a new topic for a north Texas meet up for the 4th and NPN day. Copying it here as an FYI.
All-
For those of you in north Texas and wanting to take part in the NPN Nature Appreciation Day on Sunday, October 4th, here is the plan.
We will meet that morning in Tandy Hills Nature Area near downtown Fort Worth.
The park is a hilly area of remnant tall grass prairie. At 160 acres in the city it overlooks both the Trinity River and downtown Fort Worth. Hiking amongst the grass and trees will take one far away from the modern world.
Our plan is to meet at the park at sunrise, photograph for 2-3 hours and then go have breakfast at Fuzzys Taco Shop near TCU. Yes this is a trifecta, meet fellow photographers, photograph a neat park, and have migas at Fuzzys!!!
Info/map on the location (we meet at the corner of Tandy and View)

An overview of the park with photographs.

This will also be a combined outing with fellow photographers from the Fort Worth Camera Club so you can expect several other folks to be there.
Come on out and you will have a fun morning plus some great food!
Drop me an email for more info and hope to see you on the 4th!!!

Sunday is NPN Nature Appreciation day and if you are in the north Texas area come on over to Cowtown where I'll be leading a small group to Tandy Hills Park.
See the map here:

I'll be there at sunup, photograph for a few hours and then it is off to Fuzzys for breakfast!
Hope to see a few of you make it out.
