American Made
Taken this morning at American Basin.
Despite a dismal morning, I stuck it out and was rewarded with a partial clearing that lasted about a minute.

Just missed Jim Talaric and Rod Hanna, but did see two photographers whose work I hold in great esteem...Ron Flickinger and Adam Kavalunas. Also met an RMNP 'lurker' who recognized me from my little icon image.
Stand up and take a bow, Will from Littleton!

Compression is murdering this shot, but the detail here is simply amazing. Trust me...

Any processing tips gratefully accepted!

Canon 5D2 w/17-40 lens @ 21mm
Two blended exposures at 1/10 & 1/30 sec. f16
ISO 100

That is quite some atmospheric conditions you had up there; the slight break in the clouds is a bonus, but the clouds resting in the basin are really nice!. That is quite the mix of flowers, I see why this area is one of the top spots. I really like your composition John, especially how the curve of the creek leads the eyes into the scene. If I had one nit, it would of been to darken the reflection of the water a bit with a polarizer, but that is minor and a personal preference only.

Wow! I love the clouds and the way they curl up the sides of the basin. The spread of flowers is amazing, too.

Veeery Nice! The wait paid off John.

Killer shot, John! The color balance looks a bit odd, kinda brownish. Easy fix.

Hey John, thats quite the quick post! Its always nice to meet another NPN'er. I'm guessing you took this after we left, seeing as it looks like its starting to clear on the right. It feels like it might be tilted slight CCW. It also looks to my eye to have a slight yellow cast, but then again, I haven't calibrated my monitor in probably 6 months. Great shot!

Some great conditions--real nice, John! I also think its tilted CCW

Thanks for the kind words and keen observations, folks! Will perform some fixes ASAP.

Great drama here and I'm sure the detail is incredible in the big version. I agree with the CCW tilt and color balance seems a tad warm to my eye.

The conditions were equally rough on the prior day...but the late afternoon brought with it quite a turn of events. Here is the first one I've had a chance to process...

Outstanding comp, and really nice moment you captured. So many good ingredients!

John,

I guess we were like "ships passing in the night" last weekend....I like your shot here better than mine---clearing clouds are much better than the "severe clear" we encountered in the morning.

Sweet conditions the shot isn't too shabby either! :toast: :toast:

Nice shot. I like the low angle and the way the clouds are nesting in the basin.

I really like the dramatic low lying clouds in this John....nice work!
