Got back late sat nite from Snowy,
Ended up only being one nite/day as the rain finally unleashed itself and I did not stay the extra nite/day to see if it was going to clear up. The weather for the most part was terrible. I headed out on the Lakes trail at 5:15am and it was cloudy all day except for about an hour. And that’s when the wind decided to pick up. Anyhoo enough of my crying, all and all it was a wonderful day for my eyes. I will say this much, get your butt’s up there NOW! It’s simply beautiful, fields and fields of flowers everywhere. Few patches of columbine here and there but mostly it was your run of the mill yellow, white, blue and a few red. Sorry I am not up to speed on the names, most that I saw we’re at there peak or just past it, but there we’re lots of new buds that should be opening this week. I took a quick peek in the lake Marie area and didn’t see much, there were still some down by the lake Marie falls but nothing like it was two wknds ago when I was up there for a quick day/scouting trip. O and I saw my first wildlife up in Snowy (2 Moose) Fri. nite when I headed back down to Centennial for some pizza.. One final word, don’t forget that mosquito repellent it’s downright nasty out there.

I have processed a few more of my trip, and to say the least I'm not overly thrilled at the end result. Don't get me wrong I don't think there terrible but I do feel I need lots of work still with hyperfocal focusing. Not one of my nice photos really shows sharp flowers with killer background. I know some of this was due to how windy it was, but mostly it's my lack of knowledge in this area. So any C&C is welcome and most appreciated!
Here is the link to the others I've processed so far.

Kurt, these are all real nice. I especially like those last shots with the tree and columbines--very cool. There are some shots in the middle (the lake and flowers) that look like the Shadow & Highlite tool has been overdone or something similar. I think your shot here is awesome, just needs to be sharper. I dont know why your having sharpness issues, i dont see any photo here where hyperfocal focusing is that crucial, at f/16 everything should be reasonably sharp (?). Could be the motion, or maybe the lens your using, hard to say from the shots! What lens were you using--thats probably the crucial ingredient here?

I like the tree and columbines too, well done Kurt. Like Stan f16 should give plenty of DOF. Wind will blow the grass and flowers and make those elements blurry.

Thanks for the great comments Stan & Bill,
I might have overdone some of these as I'm trying to use LR2 now and still very new to using it. All of these shots we're taken with my Tamron 11-18 lens, I did bring my canon 24-70 but it just was not wide enough for most of the shots I took, so I kept the Tamron on most of the day. I would like to drop some cash on a 17-40 since my next body (Canon 5D)woud be able to take advantage of it. But my Tamron has been very trusty for me over the past couple years. So all I can hope for are that these we're caused mostly by the wind but my gut feeling is I'm not doing something right. As you guys said at F16 and even a few I had at F22 should be reasonably sharp at least to the point where I could crop it where the flowers begin to get sharp. So I'm just confused at what to try next time I'm out in the field which hopefully will be next wknd. I want to shoot Maroon bells for the first time.

I like 8570, the early b/w shot with the twisted trunk and the last columbine shot. I'm thinking a little brightness and contrast might help on that one.

I like the mood and composition of this shot.
