Ever Been to Burney Falls?
If you haven't visited Burney Falls, it is certainly worth a stop. It is on Hwy 89 between McCloud and Lassen Nation Park. It is a little tricky shooting down in the gorge with wind, spray and sky flare. Dennis Frates published an excellent fall photo of it in his article in the most recent issue of OP. The way water pours out of the volcanic rock layer in a curtain several hundred feet wide makes it one of the more unique falls in the west.

David Cobb suggested we stop there on the way to Lassen last week. I had it mixed up with McCloud Falls (another 60 miles closer) so we arrived with just the last glow of twilight left and only had time for a couple photos. I'll certainly be going back in late Sept. It would also look great with snow/ice.

Hey Sean,

Thanks for sharing. Burney Falls is certainly a good place to be when it's hot like this. Hope you're surviving down south. This shot turned out pretty decent...certainly better than what I came home with in '03 when I was on the PCT. I think I remember the sun rising from behind the waterfall if i'm not mistaken. Hope you got some good shots at Lassen.

Hey, I know that shot! Given the lack of light when we arrived things worked out well Sean. Tyson, I took a shot on the PCT in '92, and that's why I always wanted to go back. I'm definately going to be there in the fall.

Sean,
I am going to hit this place on the way down to the Eastern Sierra in Early October. You around?
Anyhow, it looks great...and thanks as always for the tip.

Jack,

I might be around in early Oct. Drop me a line before you come through and see what I'm up to.

Wonderful falls and shot here. I have never been there. Looks obviously worth going! Nice job and thanks for a heads up.

I just so happened to have been there last week (my third time), but it was during the late afternoon and the light was quite difficult to deal with.

You've really captured the beauty of this place!

I purchased my first digital camera, a used Nikon Coolpix 880, back in 2002. Shortly after, we moved here to the northwest. On one of my drives up, towing a trailer with "stuff," I took the scenic route and stopped here. I remember photographing the falls, taking snapshots, and have since wished I could make it back down and do it proper. With your permission Sean?, here's a photo from that trip.

Insanely beautiful! Nice shots, Sean and John. This is now on my list of places to see. Thanks for sharing the info and route and all, too.

nice photography as always Sean. I'll have to add this one to my list as well. My parents were just suggesting that my wife and I stop by McCloud sometime.
