Got back from 2 1/2 weeks in the Pacific Northwest a week ago and I'm still recovering (up by 3:30 on eight of the days I was out there). On the last full day I was out there, as I was in the early stages of returning to Seattle from southern Oregon, one of the tires on my rental car blew out in the middle of nowhere, which put a damper on the day. Three days after I got back--my birthday, no less--I got hit with a kidney stone and spent the afternoon in the ER since this was my first (and, hopefully, last) such experience and I wanted to make sure it wasn't my appendix. I've played baseball with a broken hand; I've played hockey on a knee with a completely torn ACL. In other words, I'm no stranger to pain and dealing with it, but this kidney stone experience was like nothing I've experienced before.
Anyway, I'm hoping for a better week.
Here's a shot from about a month ago from the Nachusa Grasslands, a Nature Conservancy property/tallgrass prairie in northwest Illinois. The sun was just beginning to hit the horizon.
Don't believe it folks.... Kerry is just looking for sympathy...... only kidding---he had a tough time and I hope he doesn't think that the PNW is a jinx)
Anyhow ---was this the place you were telling me about? Must be with the native CF's

Sorry to hear about the problems you have had lately, Kerry, especially the kidney stone! I spent most of a day in ER last winter with my son while he went through the same thing, so I know it's certainly not a piece of cake, no matter what your pain tolerance level!
Love this image...the soft lighting fits the scene very well.

Nice composition and I love the colors. Been there and done that and I agree Kidney stones are a more than a little painful. On the bright side the attack didn't come while you were on vacation.
Thanks for the comments and commiseration, everyone.
And Phil, you're right--it could have been much worse. Could have happened when I was out of town or--worse yet--on the four-hour plane ride from Seattle to Chicago. That's a truly scary thought.
