Hi friends. My husband and I want to vacation in Costa Rica for relaxation but also for my selfish needs to get some great wildlife shots. Anybody have any suggestions for me as I know nothing about the area. I wouldn't mind roughing it but my husband would probably like a pool and some AC! LOL Thanks :wavey:

Tortuguero is a great visit with lots of wildlife, but also lots of rain. Monteverde is good for insects and plants. I've never been, but have heard Manuel Antonio National Park has some great wildlife (because of its popularity, the wildlife has become quite used to humans, and as such makes photography much easier). If you are into photographing birds, set up next to the nearest hummingbird feeder and let the games begin (some areas have multiple feeders set up that are a blast to watch and even more fun to photograph). Check fellow NPNer Glenn Bartley's webpage (he travelled Costa Rica for quite some time), and also hisCosta Rica Article on NPN. Greg Basco leads photo photo tours..I contacted him before my trip and he was very helpful in providing information
One thing about Costa Rica - at least when I visited - was the light, or lack thereof (rain, clouds, etc...). Just a note to prepare for rain (protect gear) and using high iso's and possibly flash

Savegre River Mountain Lodge if you're after cloud forest bird species, can't be beat. Awesome setting, and awesome guides are available. About 2 hours south of San Jose.
