Here we have a very young kingfisher, it had just been ringed on Saturday, and was being given a lecture on how to behave for visiting photographers, as you can see it was in a terrible mood
It was found to be the instigator of a game of hide and seek with Steve last week , it won't happen again as the older birds didn't take kindly to being told off.
Seriously though, sorry to have missed you Steve, but a secondary infection after the op had me laid up, and on a new course of antibiotics, I was much improved on Friday so headed over to the reserve hoping you might have turned up.

Exif in the image for those interested, c&c welcome but it was only posted to tease Steve a bit.

We are expected to shy away from unnatural perches, but this one, along with the comments about the lecture, make this an endearing shot.
I'm still smiling, and expect to be for a while.
Thanks.

Being given a lecture? It looks more as though it is the kingfisher who is giving the lecture
Nice shot, endearing story.

I have been close to them....very close...but this is ridiculous...
Fine, rub it in Dani obviously they go for the 'feminine' touch I see! Seriously nice to see they are still around perhaps you can save some for later next month for me? Not surprised they hid themselves away, I see security has been stepped up since last I visited!
Will let you know when we plan to come up, hope we can meet up then and you can show me these shy birds, preferably on a more 'natural' perch.
Sorry Steve I just couldn't resist, this one is fresh out the nest so it must be from the second brood, 4 birds were seen on the pond at the same time last week so not sure how you missed them, but that's how it goes sometimes I guess..
I have been given permission to put out new perches, so I'm looking for stuff that's been cut down for a year or more, a bit weathered I think.
I wouldn't hold a woodpecker like that, as I've seen one turn a hand into a pin cushion, they move so fast they're just a blur, then the pin pricks of blood starts to appear.
I'll email you my mobile number so you can arrange the next time, I'll most likely have the water voles well trained by then too.
Thanks to everyone for your comments, I laughed my head off at Jeroen's post, I've actually got a picture of 2 in the hand from 4 weeks ago, try this link http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_61-1d5Smf04/SiLO0wv9tQI/AAAAAAAAAI8/4Dkafo_-Vz8/s1600-h/kingtwin1a.jpg not one of my best as they insisted on having them in bright mid day sun.
