Following Danny's top drawer image is not an enviable place to be posting! The quality of his shot is very high and its desirability factor in terms of subject is (I'm guessing for most of us here ) very high too.
My humble gull image, then, is neither as 'sexy' a subject or as controversial a posting as some we see from time to time on the forum. What it is though is a representation of an extremely rewarding and interesting couple of hours of photography. During my time with this individual I became engrossed in the photographic process, witnessed several piece of behaviour I'd not seen in this species before and got some of the most satisfying images I've taken in a while.
In short, wildlife photography doesn't have to have some higher purpose or include exotica - sometimes it can just be enjoyable.
Chris, good detail in the feathers, clean & crisp. OK, IMHO I would perhaps like to see it a bit more punchy, but then that is just personal. thanks for posting.
I don't know what Steve is viewing this image on but from where I'm sitting it would be difficult to get it more 'punchy' without losing detail. I have to agree with the comment about just finding your photography enjoyable. Most of my subjects are quite common or local and I gain a great deal of satisfaction simply from getting some half decent images without having to apply myself to the pursuit of the mystical. Good picture Chris and I have to say I find Herring Gulls to be beautiful birds (though I would have gladly shot the individual that ripped our bin bag apart yesterday!!).

Like I've said before- people go for the sexy stuff but this'll do for me.

I like flies, you can't get more common that and they are despised as well (considering the billions spent on trying to eridicate them). This is a top class image IMHO. Thanks for posting.
