A few Art Show ??

I'm gearing for the second season of art shows and had a few questions on things I may change. My typical line-up is Fuji Chystal Archive Pearls, Epson Lustre, and gallery wrapped canvas. I like the standout mounts for ease but was wondering how those do. Also, a lot of my work is limited edition and I include any print/canvas that I sign and number, regardless of size. The standouts, being so vulnerable, I was thinking maybe only do open editions with them? I like having some real high end frames with linen wrapped liners on display but hate sinking the change and time into those, so I was looking into something easy and modern.

Any ideas would be great,
Thanks, Paul

Paul, I'm not an Art show guru but, this past few I've been too ...
-I saw many more stand outs (my opinion they seem cheaper but they appeared to be selling good)
-Gallery wraps are huge huge huge. At this years Art Fair on the Square in Madison, WI it seemed the gallery wraps out did framed art. I thought about doing an Art Fair or two myself after seeing the kind of work that was selling. One tent that has work similar to mine, sold three pieces (Canvas wraps) during the 10-15 minutes I was perusing.
With the price point of standouts and gallery wraps so much cheaper to produce over framed work, it's nice to see them selling. Customers must still hold a high sense of value with them. Also, I think the lack of matting and frame gives an even more intimate experience. Time will tell on the durability.

I have been selling more of my large canvas pieces than framed pieces and plan on just doing canvas, unless a customer requests otherwise. My last show in Boca New Years weekend I sold two of my large canvases. But, my husband does put a small frame around the wraps. We order the canvas non stretched and stretch them ourselves then put the frame on them. You can see what I mean on my website under services.

We're out of the art show circuit for the time being, but still relish our rare opportunities to attend. I see the same trends with paintings that you report for photos. Frames aren't selling. Based upon feedback from designers and architects I know, I bet the trend is driven more by current styles in home and office decor rather than budgets.

And as a virtual aside, sales of portraits on canvas in our studio are way up compared to standard prints, even though they're much more expensive. There may be longer waits between sessions and sales as people save for large canvases, but they're following through and buying.
