Shocking, but True
Its been a very stormy week, with more to come today, maybe leaving us with lots of clouds/fog hugging the hillsides Thu morn (  , Todd)
Here's a couple from out in front of my street, a very electric storm Monday night. I really must get a flash to play with...

One more, wish it were more centered but what can you do...
these are only 20 s exposures, typically you'd only get a couple bolts with 20s!

Great images! Really like the first one with the flowers lit up.

Great lightning Stan, lots of flashes. Last night we had a storm at 1am and the flashes were 2-3 per second, quite bright! Most of it was cloud to cloud and directly above us and there was so much rain you couldn't see the shape of the flashes very well, plus I was having problems getting out from under the bed!

These are awesome, Mr. Weatherman! Yeah, the storms the last few days have produced some of the most beautiful and intimidating-looking bolts I've seen in a long time, and your shots sure capture that. As for fog locally, I'm heading SW for the rest of the week, and am hoping some of the slop makes its way down there. Enjoy the cooler temps here while they last.

Wow, amazing bolts! As far as I'm concerned, getting any kind of foreground in a lightning shot is an achievement: the yellow flowers are pretty cool.

That first one is prett spectacular. I'm not sure if I like the foreground or not. If the flowers extended all the way across the bottom, I think I'd like it. But as it is, I find them a bit distracting. I think the lightning may be strong enough to stand on its own.

That first one is terrific!
The flowers in the foreground really send this above and beyond a more typical 'bolt' shot.

You really should get a flash....doesn't have to be the best or most expensive. I rarely use mine, but am glad I have it when it's called for.

John,

Can you explain why a flash would help with these?

Yeah, you can lose the flowers, and the dark foreground in the vertical and clone out the light streaks, because those are some wonderful frame filling lightning shots!

During along lightning exposure, say 10 seconds or more, he could run out among the flowers and illuminate the foreground in any pattern he wants, for any effect he wants. Art's like that, y'know?
