There was a swallowtail sitting on the wet grass this morning, too cold to fly so I helped it onto a nice flower and took a few shots. It said it didn't mind!
Great shots (also checked your website). Would you mind sharing what camera, lens and setting you used for this one and whether it is full frame or cropped? Thank you.
Bill, these are really nice. The first thing I thought when seeing this was how did you get it to say on the flower for you; should have known it was really early and it wasn't active yet.
The first was is my favorite; the selective focus really makes it work well.

Bill, I like #1 also but #s 5-6 are terrific too. Great work.
Bill, this proves it's the photographer and not the equipment that makes the difference. I have the same setup as yours, D300, 105mm macro, etc. but haven't been able to get anything as gorgeous as your shots. Your work does show me what's possible so I'll keep plugging
The fun part was that the wind was blowing gently, but enough to make it a nightmare with the weak sun starting to warm up the butterfly and the flower blowing around!
Thanks for the comments.

I didn't know you could speak butterfly Bill, I'll bet that helps when photographing these guys! Great shot, I love the detail on the flower and the butterfly's face.

I've never been fortunate enough to find a butterfly that's too cold to move, so mine never turn out this well. But it's sure fun trying
