Animalscape/Landscape?

I like to include habitat in my bird and animal images, but sometimes I end up with more landscape than subject. So my question is; for purposes of NPN, when does a landscape become an animal or birdscape?
Are there set rules? Does the inclusion of anything but natural landscape make it something else?

I don't think there's a hard line Wayne - it's somewhat up to you. To my thinking, if you're trying to show people a picture of an animal or bird that includes some landscape, then I'd put it in Avian or Fauna. If you're trying to show someone the landscape and it just happens to contain an animal, then I'd put it in Earth, Sea, and Sky. That's just me, though.

Wayne,

I think David sums it up pretty well with his simple explanation. One of the defining guidelines of NPN as far as posting is for the photographer to put the image "in the most appropriate" gallery. If the image is mostly about the landscape and the animal is simply a compliment, it certainly would fit in ES&S.

Of course there may be a gazillion different scenarios, but for example if a bird was on a telephone pole, a fence or a dock piling, then it should go in Man & Nature and would probably get moved from ES&S.

The only set rules are in the NPN Posting Guidelines. And of course, feel free to send a note to any of the moderators if you have any doubts or questions.

Thanks, David and Lon. Usually it's easier for me to decide on which gallery to post on, but this particular image had me sitting on the fence. I just now posted it in the Avian Gallery. Title is, Great White Egret, in case you want to see the image I'm talking about.

Wayne, I see what you mean. I agree, Avian was the best spot.

I think you put it in the correct gallery. The photo is about the bird and its environment and not a landscape with a bird in it, if that distinction makes any sense.
