Hi David

Love it. Just wish the fly hadn't been half & half against the green & black BG - but that is a minor point!

Another good fly close up & the water droplets finish it off nicely.

Not sure that this one is one of your strongest. I see the little fella hiding and you did well to get that in to but is it strong enough to make an image? Secondly, the fly, despite you usual amount of great detail, is looking away from you and I think a more perpendicular shot would have been stronger. I also have to agree with David about the black BG dissecting the fly... Is the black BG just a remnant of using flash in darker locations or do you 'paint' it black in post processing..?

Kind regards,

Brett :toast: :toast:

Hello Brett. You can please some of the people all of...... The whole idea of the image was that the big fly hadn't seen the little fly because it was looking away. I didn't want to influence the fly's behaviour unduly if I could help it, so I took the image then the rain (or the gods) intervened so I had to leave. As to the black BG dissecting that is subjective as I quite like it. The black BG is due to the rapid light fall off with using a ring flash to allow me to use small apertures to increase DOF with a reasonable shutter speed, as the camera is hand held. I will re touch the BG if need be to increase the blackness but that is all. Some people don't like black BGs but I think they are great. It is the price you pay for capturing detail with flash and not being able to use intricate lighting set ups which are not always practical or desirable.

Thanks Craig, the EP/macro is indeed an honour.  Congratulations on your EP/ fauna. well done indeed.

Good explanation David and thanks for taking the time.. Taking photographs really is about what you like, IMO so that's really all that counts.. So keep up the good work and look forward to more..
