Great Snipe displaying
From a recent trip to Norway where I spend a night in a tent in the middle of a Great Snipe lek. Some 20-25 Snipes where displaying all around me - a fantastic experience. Unfortunately they only display at night from 23 - 03. At that time the sun is gone, but it doesn't become real dark. As it was also completely overcast I had to work with some challenging shutter-times.

1D MarkIII + 500/4; iso1600, f4, 1/40, comp (-2/3). Converted in Breezebrowser with WB set to "cloudy". NeatImage applied.

With 99% of my images I trust the automatic WB on the MarkIII, but here I really felt I had to do something to make the image pop.

Great image especially because of the conditions, I would get rid of the white bit of grass as I find it a bit distracting.

judging my your techs it must have been very dark! You've done well to pull this shot from 1/40th sec.

Great shot! :toast:

Lovely behaviour shot of this beautiful bird!
Agree about the white spot being somewhat distracting but that's easily removed.

The colours are what makes this special for me. For edtorial use I would clone out 3 blades of grass, the central white one, and the two that stick into the body of the bird.

Light must have been pretty bad for those techs.

A behavioural image rarely seen, never mind photographed.
Very well captured.
Best wishes

A super image captured under less than ideal conditions, your efforts were certainly rewarded.

Great behavioural shot and very well sen and taken. A few more minutes in PS to clone out those stray bits of grass and you will have something very nice indeed.. Good work.
