It was the shot I was looking for, the fish even played along. I was panning with the bird in order to get it, hence everything else is a bit blurred, aided by the shutter speed; the water, the fish fin and the BG. The bird is (just) acceptably sharp but not pin-sharp.
I could have done with a good bit more light but this was the rainy day, it's a pity about the rear right BG and I could have done with being closer as what is seen is 2/3 of the original frame.
Next year eh!

Lovely shot Tom, your best so far in the series for me. I realy hope the Osprey stops off at the golf course for me again this year, your images have given me some challenges !!!!
Do the white's look a little hot because of compression??

Great action shot, beautifully timed. I like it very much indeed.
I reckon this is the best of the series.
Did you follow the bird just hoping for it to catch something ,or did you find the fish first ?
Not sure how Bob knows its a Rudd ?
Cheers

Great action Tom, I'm going to be a pain here and say that I think I would have prefered it with a full reflection if you have it... (in the heat of the action I guess it is all too easy to just concentrate on the subject)
John - the red fins and looks like it has turned turtle onto its side with white belly facing us answers the baiting question - but I wouldn't have identified it that precisely!
...... whatever the fish and circumstances (no criticism here), it is one of the best Osprey fishing shots I have seen from a fish farm set up, it's got it all
Tom,
You certainly got brilliant shots this year from Rothiemurchus. I missed it out this year because of the extortionate charge the estate are now making for access to their photographic hides. Instead, I enjoyed keeping a (distant) eye on the nest of one of those osprey visiting the fish farm, occasionally glimpsing the two youngsters being fed on Rothiemurchus fish. So no close up shots of osprey this year but just as much satisfaction at seeing the efforts of Ron Dennis and others in the area bearing such fruit.
Best wishes,
The other Tom

b) I followed the bird and hoped for the fish. Osprey are a lazy lot and this bird had dived and missed three times, as weather was lousy and cold they where not that keen to get wet, I guessed it would do the same again.
c) Phil, no full reflection captured...
d) Don't know the species of fish but above may help. (hastely processed so not that great)
