I spent four days on a whirlwind trip through Wyoming last week. I covered a lot of ground, mostly scouting for future trips. I'm posting an image from each day.
Day 1 - Upper Green River Flow. Although I was right below The Winds, the light was sub-optimal for big landscapes, so I opted for more intimate and abstract stuff.
Day 3, Burrowing Owl in Brush, Northern Red Desert
I planned to spend the evening shooting sand dunes and was pleasantly surprised to find a family of burrowing owls nearby. They didn't stay perched for long and I squeezed off four frames.
Day 4, Boar's Tusk and Killpecker Sand Dunes, Northern Red Desert.
First light was blocked by low clouds and I made this image about 15 minutes after sunrise. It was pleasantly cool and windless in the desert. The trip was more than I had hoped for, with great diversity in wildlife and landscapes. Thanks for taking a look.

Great images Dave. Really like the owl. The sense of motion in the first image is really nice as well.
You reaped some good images from that whirlwind!
The first three in particular are quite good. I like the inclusion of the static rocks (esp. the one that appears to be split) in the dynamic rapids (great choice of shutter speed).
That brush is one of the better environments that I've seen with an owl in it. Sure like the even lighting there.

Great shots, Dave. Sounds like a fun adventure as well!
Good stuff Dave:
FYI the Boar's Tusk is a composed of a very interesting and unusual igneous rock that is highly undersaturated with silica. It contains leucite and phlogopite among other unusual minerals.
Too bad about the light for the big landscapes, but you sure made some great intimate captures! Love the river detail and the owl shot!!

I love 'em all, but that first one is sumpin' special! I also love the Boar's Tusk shot, and seeing it here rekindles that book cover shot you mentioned. Excellent stuff, man!

I had been shooting and battling mosquitos along the Gros Ventre River and came upon these cooperative pronghorn just before sunset.
