Great close-up but toning down the hotspots has turned them grey and flat. Perhaps using more diffusion material in front of the ring flash (a few layers of kitchen towel works great) would do the trick.
Love the colors in both perch and fly though.

The detail in the eye is stunning    , the central composition looks good here and I love the colours of the dead twig, another cracking shot David    :wavey:

it's a well taken shot David and it looks packed with detail. I can see what Jeroen means about the highlights looking a bit grey, particularly in front of and behind the eye. But still a very nice hoverfly image.

I find it difficult to believe that this has only had 90 odd views David, that really makes me angry! This is one of your best recent shots IMO, just a little more work on processing as already mentioned by Matt and Jeroen would top it off.

Cheers,

Lewis.

Thanks chaps for commenting.  As to the grey it looks OK to me on my monitors, I suppose it is down to what you are viewing it on.

Thanks Lewis but don't get angry.

As far as comments are concerned, it has been said in another post that sycophancy does seem to be prevalent but whether this is true or not is not for me to judge. It could be argued that it is due to speciesism, equipmentism, agism or any other ism you care to mention, but hey ho, such is the human condition.

As far as critique is concerned subjectivity rules IMHO. I feel qualified to know what I do like and do not like but that is as far as it goes. An image is an image is an image. If it works for you, then that's fine; if it doesn't then that's fine as well.

In my twenties I came across Ceci n'est pas une pipe by René Magritte see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Magritte

and that image and the philosophy behind it has influenced me ever since.

Hi David :wavey:

I think this shot is one of the best in the series you have posted.
Very nice detail on the body and eye. I have to agree that " on my monitor the whites look a little bit gray ".
