Young flycatcher
Last time I photographed spotted flycatcher it was 1975, the species was still relatively common, and it took all evening to get a couple of (out of focus) shots with my most powerful lens - a 200mm.

When Brett Lewis and Tony Flashman offered me the chance to photograph the species in a churchyard near Canterbury I therefore leapt at the opportunity. This is my favourite shot, one of the youngsters from a presumed first brood. The young of the second brood are still in the nest judging from the sounds we could hear. That did not stop this one from begging for food whenever the opportunity arose.

Thanks for those comments folks,
John - you are right about the appearance. In classing it as a bird recently out of the nest I was judging more by behaviour than anything else. It was sitting still a lot of the time and begging to be fed. A female may, of course, do that, but surely not at this late stage in the breeding cycle?
Ian - !!!!
