I spent a lovely hour relaxing at the pond after work this evening. Didn't expect much as it was dull and grey, but the sun broke through for a few frames. I experimented with some unusual compositions. Does it work?

Great exposure, viewpoint and composition, as always from your shots. For me though I am not too keen on the long reflection, just a personal thing, maybe a horizontal crop would have worked better?
Don't take that as a criticism of the shot though - just my personal taste
the colours are stunning Ian and the repost looks nice and sharp. I tend to agree with Colin about the reflection though. I know it is natural, but I always think long straight reflections like this look a little strange. Reflection aside, it's a lovely shot.

Fantastic colours, somehow the browny coulurs complement the coot's black. I think the portrait works well as you get the full reflection of the bird, horizontal you would be cutting off part of the reflection.
Really like the second image Ian. Much sharper. I quite like the reflection - its unusual.

The reflection makes it for me without question. In fact, I'd have been tempted to put the coot a tad higher and let the reflection disappear fully within the frame rather than it being just chopped off. Great work.

Richard. I used smart sharpen and I agree it does still look soft - I've applied one round of USM to the bird and I think it does help - thanks.
Colin - I do appreciate your opinion, as I am still experimenting with a few compositions.
