EPSON R1800 Incompatible Cartridge Message

I have been using an Epson R1800 for just over 2 years with no problems. Today I replaced my magenta cartridge with the correct, Epson ink cartridge. The printer refuses to recognize it. It keeps telling me the cartridge is incompatible. I called tech support and with them on the phone, used up 2 more cartridges with no success. They are sending me replacements, but I still can't print. Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks for the help.

I still use this printer.... I have had great results (other than it being very expensive)... search hard on the epson website for support... I haven't encountered this prob so I don't know how to guide you.... have you tried to search for new drivers at the site? this is probably your prob go straight to Epson... this is a six year old printer....sometimes if you search enough they will at least talk to you.... someone to give you guidance....get you on the right page.... best of luck... the only other thing I can suggest is try to lean on them for a replacement

Malcolm..
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?
Just a thought.

I did replace the drivers. The driver I had was the latest but I figured it might be corrupt. I talked to tech support for a while and their only suggestion was defective cartridges, so I bought a new one with no change. The printer is out of warranty and Epson suggests I send it to an authorized repair center for an estimate.

I was hoping someone would have a way around the sensor.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I fixed the problem. It turned out to be the contacts on the printer. I cleaned them with an eraser and now the printer seems fine.

Thank you for the suggestions. :jump:

I would agree with the cleaning of the contacts on the printer and to to also recheck the cartridge, to make sure the contacts there a cleared of of coverings.

I cant believe tech support didn't recommend that in the first 5 minutes...
