Wilson's Snipe
Here's an image from my Canon days that I recently reprocessed. It's a Wilson's Snipe that I photographed one winter's day in Millwood State Park in Little River County, Arkansas. Sadly, I had forgotten to pack along my flash that day.

Technical Info: Date: 1/30/05, Time: 10:26:30 AM, Camera: Canon EOS-1D Mark II,
Lens (mm): Canon 500mm f4L IS + 1.4X EFII teleconverter, ISO: 320, Exposure: f5.6 @ 1/320, Meter pattern: Evaluative, Program: Manual, Focus Mode: One Shot AF, White Bal.: Auto, ICC Profile: Adobe RGB (1998)

Even without flash you captured a great image of a rather elusive bird. The pose is quite striking for an over-the-shoulder shot. My only nit: The black shape in the BG is a bit distracting.

ditto to what Daniel said, but still a great shot of an elusive bird

So if I told my wife I was going snipe hunting I could back it up? Love the bill. You captured some pretty nice detail Charles.

Really nice detail Charles - and beautiful plummage! Outstanding work, as always.

I think this is fine, without flash. The black behind him is harmonious enough to not be a problem.
