This chappie was a real character and didn't mind my presence at all. Its fantastic to see them doing so well now in Yorkshire and hopefully they can steer clear of the Greys. The 'perch' wasn't so great so I tried a different, more intimate crop on this one.
Hi Simon, definitely the better of the two species IMHO.
Sadly the crop doesn't work for me as it truncates the animal to much, perhaps a more 'tighter' crop might work? Good sharp detail in the eye and whiskers. Possibly not the best time for these fellows as the ear tuffs and tail are not at their bushiest, but hey, it's a red squirrel and that's good to see.
The crop is a Marmite thing I agree Steve, I liked it but the wife wasn't so keen. The tails and tufts aren't at their most bushy but I liked the variation of colour on this one as most of the local reds are very red. A better perch for them to sit on will help with the images, something I'll hopefully sort out soon.
There's a lot of good work going on the the Dales at the moment to ensure that these guys have a home when large scale Forestry Commission clearance takes place in the not-too-distant future. Lots of mixed woodland is being planted which will hopefully be an ideal habitat for the Reds, Dormice and Black Grouse amongst other species.

Nice shot! The composition isn't as strong as it could be though!

You can tell it's a Yorkshire squirrel, it is keeping tight hold of its nuts. Fine as it is for me. Some great detail.
Simon, aim to be up there middle of next week. There are a few things I need to do whilst up there, but if I am in your location might drop in for some 'sugar' LOL.
