I'm beginning to process the images from my trip to the San Juans during the last week of July. Here's some from the first location I visited: Wetternorn Basin. I hiked into the middle of the basin via 12,500-ft West Fork Pass. It was about an 8-9 mile round trip, but well worth it for the scenery!
This image: Wetterhorn, striped with partly-cloudy light, rising from one of the basin's paintbrush-filled hillsides.

The view southwest toward the Sneffels Range soon after descending into the basin over West Fork Pass.

Afternoon thunderstorm clouds begin rolling around Wetterhorn Peak. The basin is an interesting place to be when the thunder starts to roll and echo off the surrounding peaks.

Wetterhorn's reflection in a small tarn during a break in the storm later that afternoon.
Phenomenal Josh! Wow! I'd say that long hike was definitely worth it! More, more!

The storm clouds began to come back so I thought it would be a good time to get back on the other side of West Fork Pass. I thought the clouds would stay for the rest of the evening, but they broke up right at sunset creating one of the most colorful displays I've ever seen. Here is the view from under Coxcomb Peak.

And the last one for now, the sunset as viewed looking toward Precipice Peak. Next post: Porphyry Basin...

That's some really nice shots, those wildflowers were impressive.

Really nice! Looks like a virtual explosion of wild flowers up there. I took a similar trip a couple of years ago and can definately identify with the lightning/thunderstorm comment!

Holy cow, these are amazing! Great work Joshua! Your second flower field shot is stunning, and the red sky above Coxcomb Peak is amazing. Must have been something to witness that in person.

I love how the flowers in the close foreground of #1 seem to reflect/emulate that striking peak!
I didn't even know this was in the neighborhood....I need to pull my butt out of the desert and start exploring in the mountains.
The last two sunset images are simply magnificent.
I really look forward to seeing your work from Porphyry Basin, as I missed it this year.
Outstanding work, Joshua!

MInd-blowingly beautiful flowers, Joshua. You picked the prime time to be there and made some amazing compositions. Simply exceptional!

A great collection of exceptional images. The sunset under Coxcomb was certainly the icing on the cake to this day! Can't wait to see more from your trip.
