Weir Lake on the south fork of Bishop Creek is this beautiful peaceful area. Capturing that peace and beauty in a photo was another matter. I wouldn't say that this is a good representation of the lake, but I'm pretty pleased with it. What do you think?

Dan, I really like the top of the photo and the color in the bottom also. There is some kind of murkiness in the bottom that I might prefer not to be there. I guess I like the top 1/3 a lot more than the bottom. The scene still brings calm feelings when viewed.
I love the top third, but my eye gets stuck on the swirling reflections. If the water was calmer, I think I would like it better. Regardless, if this were printed and hung, I would still be in awe of the beautiful scenery.
hmm.. I'm opposite of Ben here, I love the bottom patterns and colors, but the trees distract me. But, a crop that leave just the water is too plain/simple, as the greens (particularly the grasses) add a great dimension. If it were mine I might take out a little bit of the trees.

I think the bottom portion creates more tension and disrupts the peacefulness to my eye. You're right that this is a difficult location to shoot. I still haven't been able to find a spot to shoot from that creates what I have in mind for this pond.
You already know my comments, Dan, but I'll give them again. It is very peaceful and calming, but like Steve, there's something about the color/murky contrast of the bottom half of the photo, and the top half has a bit of a green cast to it. Bear in mind that I am viewing on a cheap uncalibrated LCD.
Like Cory, despite MANY visits to Weir at many different times of day, I still haven't made a great photograph here. Perhaps the best thing I've done is the digital image I did while there with you. I think I'll post it here, since I'm not much of a contributor!
My initial reaction was to suggest cropping off the blurry area at the bottom, but after thinking about Floris' suggestion to crop a bit off the top I now like that much better. That feels really well balanced with just the right amounts of known and unknowns.
