Rock Abstract
I've seen a lot of these lately here at NPN so I thought dig for a recent attemps at this.

Let me know if I need to put a little more into finding patterns in the rocks or if they work as is.

Mojave Desert near Gerlock.

Here is another one from Minaret Lake. The white balance was set a little cooler than the cloudy to keep the blue tones that enhanced the color of the rocks.

I think they work, though I have a bias against most straight up rock abstracts - they usually seem to flat to me, or too simple.. I dunno, I like something more. I'll post an example or two later this week. But... that could just be me and my vision  The first one works better for me, almost reminiscent of a petroglyph of running antelope, if you squint a bit.. or maybe not.. but the color contrasts add a lot for me.

I love abstract like this, and I like both of these. I have a sort of 4x5 bias for abstract like this, and along those same lines could see a crop off the bottom of the second. The first works for me as is.

I like the first one.

I had the same initial reaction as Floris in terms of seeing that antelope. I was thinking a tighter crop or something focusing on that animal image might be interesting too.

Thanks guys, just having some fun here with the abstract thing. Hope to better at it.

Steve,

I don't see any problems at all with you finding these scenes - or capturing them for that matter! I really like the colors, texture and patterns of the first. I would even like to see a tighter comp to show off some of that texture. Is that some sort of lichen or growth on the rock or is the gold/brown stuff part of the rock? Very cool. Reminds me of Anil's "Fractures" series.

The second is nicely seen as well, but a bit too blue for my taste. But then again, I haven't seen this in person so it could be a pretty good interpretation.

Good stuff Steve.

I really like the first one, Steve. It has some very nice depth to it.

The second one is too blue, and the patterns are little to repetitive for my taste.
