Took a day hike up to Cathedral Pk yesterday with my wife. We had to search our memories a bit, but we concluded it had been 9 years since our last visit! We spent an enjoyable afternoon soaking up the sierra sun and the view of Cathedral Peak. While my wife did some painting, I watched several groups of climbers at various places on the peak. Even saw one person standing on the summit block, w/ binocs of course.

I have been enjoying shooting in late morning and late afternoon to get more natural color and light in my images. This was taken around 3:30-4pm. I really liked the color of the grass and the entire color palette as presented. I found this tarn(?) just south of Cathedral Lake.

There were hardly any clouds around when we first started our little hike but they built-up steadily all day. We even had some rain on 395 on the way home. there was no rain or clouds in the forecast.

I've also redone my website recently through Photoshelter.

Thanks for looking! :wavey:

Looks great Cory. The clouds radiate out from the cathedral. Nicely crafted work. Did your wife have enough time finish her painting? Always wondered how people get that done in one afternoon.

I was looking at your site the last time you posted something. The slide show runs smoothly consistantly too. Can you put music on photoshelter also?

Very well done, Cory. Lovely composition with great lighting.

Thanks Steve. Yep, she finished. She uses roughly a 5x8 paper size when we go hiking. If we go somewhere just off the road then she might use larger like 11x17. I don't know if you can put music to the website or not. They have a bunch of widgets to add for customization as well as the ability to modify individual pages w/ CSS/Html.

Thanks for the info Cory. Sounds like you two had the perfect day up there.

This is such a great place. I think the afternoon light works beautifully here. The highlights are well controlled, and the composition makes me feel as if I'm standing at the edge of that pool. Man, I look forward to being there again!

Hey Cory: brings about many great memories. I have summited Cathedral 3-4 times, and once via the West Pillar route on Eichorn's Pinnacle (the prominent spire west of the actual summit). It's pretty neat being several pitches up the spire and looking straight down on walkers headed to or from Cathedral Pass!

I'm guessing that I'll run into you again on the Eastside sometime in October

Nice reflection and clouds! That place is a sweet spot. This image looks like it might be a good candidate for a B&W conversion, if you like that kind of thing.

I noticed you moved your webcam. Thanks again for having that. I find it quite useful.

thanks you guys for the comments and responses.

@Michael: Funny you mention about looking down on hikers from above. I wondered what it looked like to those climbers seeing all of us hikers down near the lake. I'm sure we'll run into each other in the fall especially if you're in the North Lake area.

Harley: I was originally hoping to come away w/ a BW. After looking at this in person and on the monitor I felt the color version seem to portray that lounging afternoon feeling we had. Glad you finding the webcam useful.
