Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
I didn't have the most productive of weekends the last time around. So, I went back to the old files and found this one of a male Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. This is one of my all-time favorite birds. As a kid growing up, I knew that Spring had sprung when I saw one of these.

Technical Info: Date and time: 4/21/05 @ 1:19 p.m., Camera: Canon 1D Mark II, Lens: Canon 500mm f4L IS, Canon Flash @ 1 2/3, Exposure: f 11 @ 1/250, ISO 320, used driver's side window as a makeshift support.

Perfect exposure, beautiful detail, excellent background. And the bird's pose is about as nice as an at-rest pose could be, showing the wing, back, and tail detail as well as the beak and eye and the color of the breast and neck. I'm no bird photographer, but this seems really top-notch to me.

Very nice Charles, you caught him on the correct side of the barbed wire.

Beautiful bird, fine capture. The hardest part of photographing Scissortails is getting good detail in the soft grays of the upper body. You nailed this one!

Birds with long tails can make for a compositional challenge, but you nailed this one. Love the rusty wire and green bg. Exposure and sharpness perfect!
