Male Adder - Entering Ecdysis
Another Adder image form a recent excursion to Norfolk.. This male was about to shed his skin which gives him this overall 'blue' tinge to his scales including the scales over his eyes. They will soon turn completely 'milky' and then he will shed, slough or ecdysis..

Kind regards,

Brett

You know I have seen this blue sheen before - but never linked it with ecdysis.

Nice low image and perfect BG.

I hope this isn't one of your 'junk shots' I asked you to post! Lovely image. Incidentally there was a picture this week in the quarterly mag of the Wildlife Trusts of Wales of an adder eating a slow worm but it really doesnt look like an adder to me. If you e-mail your address I'll send it to you for an expert opinion.
