Again, not to sound stupid...do I need special software in order to write images to my DVD-Rs???

Windows XP (or newer) is able to write to DVD-Rs just fine, so long as your drive is able to write to them.

Thanks Mel. I have a DVD/CD writer bay on my tower but I am having trouble getting them written. If it's a question of having the correct DVD disc how do I find out which one it takes?

What I mean is that the drive must be able to write to DVD as a starting point.

I would try to use DVD-R unless you want to reuse the discs. The re-writable options are DVD-RW and DVD+RW (if I remember that part correctly) and some DVD drives cannot write to both re-write disc types.

Old writable DVD drive could only write to one format or the other (DVD-R vs DVD+R) but all new drives for the past few years have been able to write to both formats. So if your drive is relatively new, you shouldn't have any trouble writing to any writable discs. I might suggest either DeepBurn or ImgBurn freeware for trying to write DVDs. They'll give better error reports than Windows will.
