I'll be in Raleigh next week, and I'll try to get some sunrise and sunset shots at Jordan Lake.

I've never been there. Could anyone recommend some specific locations, with driving directions, please? I'll be coming from a hotel at the airport.

Matt, I sent a note to you on this after looking at the cool Jordan Lake shots on your site, but I think it never arrived.

Hi Lance.

Let me look in my spam filter and see if it your email got eaten!

Sunrise: Fishing pier off Farrington road, just north of the Farrington causeway and 1 1/2 miles north of US-64. Water is low right now and there are some really attractive boulders exposed in this area. Google map of this area is here.

Sunset location 1: North Lake off NC-751 at the wildlife loop. This trail goes about 1 mile from a parking area. The parking area is closed, but you can park off 751. Wildlife parking area road is 300' north of New Hope Church Rd, going to the west. Or with the low water levels you can just go north about 1/4 mile to the causway, cut down to the water, and walk west until you get to the small island. Just past the island is an area of exposed "stumps" that are great foregrounds for sunset pictures or also foggy mornings. Google map of this area is here.

Sunset location 2: Rocky cliffs / rocks overlooking the lake.
Go West on 64 until you reach Jordan Lake. You will go over a very small "finger" of the lake. Turn left at the Park administrative area road. If you go over a long, 1/2 mile causeway you have gone too far.

After turning left, take the gently curving road and park at the first building you come to. There is a small pathway leading down to a pier / dock. From dock you can go right along the shore a short distance to some smaller rocky areas, or left walking along the shore about 1/4 mile to some more substantial cliffy / bouldery areas. Google map of this area here.

Hope that helps!

Hi Lance.

Hope you managed to get some nice pics on Friday. It was fairly grey and overcast, but maybe some nice scenics with the egrets and GBH? Give us a peek at some of your shots. . .

Thanks for thinking of it, Matt. The locations were excellent.

Friday morning was all grey, but I think I may have something from Thursday night.

I hope to have it posted by tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.
