My girlfriend, Quinn and I got back last weekend from our 'round the state roadtrip. I just wanted to thank everyone who pitched in with their input and ideas of where to go. I think I used at least a little bit of what all of the contributors suggested.
In a nutshell, we circled Oregon covering the Cascades and Eastward, hitting the Wallowas, Hells Canyon, John Day, Steens/Alvord, Hart Mountain NWR, Crater Lake, and more. We drove over 2000 miles in 12 days and I took nearly one photo per mile driven. We endured weather from sweltering heatwaves to freeze-out hailstorms. It was a blast, and probably the best vacation time I have ever spent in my life.
So, thanks again for the great info and ideas. It was truly useful in several instances throughout the trip.
And Tyson, (if you are out there) the lady West of Mitchell does have some seriously delicious maple bars. I'd say they are even better than Joe's Donut Shop in Sandy, OR. Quinn and I did a side-by-side maple bar showdown between the two, and the lady from Mitchell just edges ahead in the presentation dept.
Here is a non-nature related photo from the famous round barn built by Pete French in Harney County, SE Oregon. I ran around like an idiot throwing handfuls of 130 year old dust into the air while Quinn clicked away for me. She calls it "photo-dorking" when I do stuff like this, but I can't help myself. Its fun...

Glad you had a great time, Aaron - I'm off to points south in the morning! (Redwoods and So. Or coast.._
Sweet. Have a good time, Ned. the weather has been awesome down here this week. Not much wind nor too much fog. I busted my camera about 3/4 of the way through the trip, so I'm at home catching up on printing and other business/gallery chores. yay

Man, I can't wait to see what you came up with on the trip, sounds like a blast. I'm very familiar with the round barn, having been birdwatching in the area on multiple occassions, but I've never thought to photograph it. This one is great; I love the tossed dust effect.

Nice job finding a creative way to capture Pete's barn. I like it. I'm glad you guys had such a blast. Sounds like the ultimate Oregon road trip to me. I'll have to try those maple bars out myself, especially if you say they're better than Joe's. Look forward to seeing some more pics from the trip.
