This image is my favorite of this most recent collection. Some healthy-looking columbine there for sure. Nicely done Jesse.

Great image. I especially like the composition and colors. Is it a trade secret how you managed to stop the wind?

Yes and no, Don.
Not so secret ... I sat on this steep hillside for nearly an hour - waiting for a lull in the wind. Out of a couple dozen shots, this was the only sharp one.
A bit more secret ... I combined two f/13 exposures here. One exposure focused on the flowers and one on the lake area. 1/50th for the flowers. 1/3rd for the lake (polarized this one). This method preserved the color of the lake, and minimized diffraction.

Well done!
Your patience paid off well.

Nice trip report, Jesse. I missed the San Juan wildflowers this year, so it's nice to live it third hand through you.
The Island lake and columbine shot is killer! I wish I'd gotten over there on my last trip. Now I know I need to!

Very nice. I really like the way you composed the image with the lake in the background.
That is gorgeous. Truly makes your lack of wildflower activity worth wild!!!!

What I really like about this image is how you show the depth and steepness of that incline...reminds me a lot of my little trip a couple weeks ago. And that you got those columbines to stay still for the shot is real real test of patience.....NICE CAPTURE!!

14 repliesI didn't get out much to shoot wildflowers this year, but this image makes it all OK.
The journey continues ...
