Spotted this Hen Harrier (think it is looks very white though) from the car last weekend in Southern Scotland. Bit of an oppertunist shot. Would like to know what you think of it.

Hi Calum,
Nice shot, but looks like a very light phase Buzzard to me. Cracking perch and BG as well !!

Lovely image Calum for an oppertunistic shot..
just had a quick look through my bird books and I am no expert but Hen Harrier does seem probable, the tail feathers and chest do not seem buzzard like.

I've just punched white buzzard into google and this popped up.

Funnily enough the shot was taken very very close to crossmichael so it may well be the White Buzzard
Please to see a different species posted on here Calum. Shame you can't get perches like that down south You have to seize the moment Calum, and if luck is on your side, go for it!!!
Is this full frame, or cropped? BG sets it off, well done

I've seen some white buzzards around but not like this. Very nice and good perch. Good do with a bit of a head turn. But very nice indeed.

Cheers guys
It was cropped a little Steve, few more bits of the perch to the right of the bird. I agree you can't get decent perches down south...... or even a good pint of '80 ... Good old Bonnie Galloway, home sweet home.

I'm all for the opportunist shots. Tells it as it is and this one works fine.
