I finally got around to doing a "lo-fi" flower garden this year. That is, I bought a bag of Northrup King Butterfly and Hummingbird seed mix, and scattered it at the edge of my lot.
I didn't plant until the end of June, and until a few weeks ago, I thought my experiment had failed- nothing seemed to be coming up except weeds. But all of a sudden, everything started opening at once and I found myself with a beautiful field of colors.
Anyway, since there were about 20-30 different types of seeds in the packet, I've had a little trouble identifying everything that came up. I've tracked down most of them, but the main one I could use help with is the very first picture in my Recent Works gallery at my website, timfeeney.net It looks like a kind of snapdragon, but I don't think it is. Any and all help would be much appreciated!

Beautiful image! Congrats on all the wildflowers. The only thing I can come up with is a Hoary Tick-Trefoil. But I am looking at an Ohio wildflower book.
Try some species of Linaria (a.k.a., toadflax, foxglove). There are about a hundred different spp, so you'll have to do some digging. But, I'd start with Northrup King... Have fun...

Tim...check out the Minnesota wildflower web site. I think you'll find the answer there... Deb's answer appears to be correct in her ID of the flower.

Certainly looks like Linaria to me as well. I have a photo of a similar flower.

Thanks for all your help, everyone! Sorry I haven't checked in sooner, my new Canon T1i arrived last week and I've been a shooting machine of late. I can't say enough about that camera- the digic IV is worlds beyond the image processor in my XTi- I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store this fall!
