Having never seen a live mole before I was startled to see this chap roaming along the side of the lane. I'm not sure whether he popped out of his hole by mistake, was crossing the road or just looking for food, but you would be very surprised how quickly he moved!
It was getting dark but I had my 70-200 with me and got down low on the verge where he was sniffing around. This is the only reasonable shot I got before he headed into the undergrowth and found a hole to disappear into. Certainly not even close to Jeroen's recent image in quality or pose but I'm pleased as I may not get another go!
5D, 70-200mm (at 150mm) ISO:400 1/60 @ f/2.8, sharp stones in knees and rabbit poo on jeans.
Agree that it's not close to Jeroens images but it is a real treat to see this rare animal roaming outside his/her 'normal' environment. Well seen Simon

Well spotted Simon - they're fascinating to watch above ground when you've the brief chance . I've only seen one live Mole above ground once - similar situation to yours - roamed around for a bit before disappearing into the leaf litter & (presumably) back underground.
