American Avocet
Having returned home for four months with plenty of images to process. I am indebted to a contributor who posted information in respect of Canon at Elstree and the fix for the 1D mk111 I had been informed my body had been fixed clearly it had not. Canon have now fixed the focus defect and calibrated the lenses within 48 hours. Old fashioned service I'm impressed.

Canon 1Dmk111 prior to fix. Canon 800mm prior to calibration ISO320
f/5.7 1/4000 sec Tripod.

They are lovely in their breeding plummage but the light is very harsh and the reeds in front of the bird are very distracting, I dont know if it was possible to get in a better position to get the light behind you and no reeds in the way, As it is it doesnt really work for me

Dave

I know what you mean. Cheyenne Bottoms Kansas 41,000 acres of wetlands with almost no trees. Harsh light at the best of times and reflective water. Where do you start you can't create shade. Maybe first light and sunset could be the answer. On the plus side millions of birds passing through, being on the major migration route spring and autum with almost 300 species.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Barry,

Nice image and one of a bird I would love to see, I think Dave has covered the nits, I also think you're spot on re the early morning light, if it were me, I'd be there just before sunrise waiting for that magic hour.

Not the best of light to work with but nice to have a record shot of this species in it's attractive Summer plumage.

hi barry

great shot, with varying colours which work for me, bg great, fg perhaps could have been fazed out as it distracts from the subject, only my views

A nice colourful image that shows off the habitat well too.
