Red Kite
40D, 300/2.8 + 1.4, tripod + 393.
ISO640, 1/1250 @ f8, manual exposure metered from the dry grass.
ACR5.3 + resize + sharpen CS4
Full frame width.

Hi,

Not perfect by any means but I am totally useless at flight shots and this is one of a short sequence that I was pleased with on a shoot at Gigrin Farm.

Why pleased... this is the full frame width, cropped top and bottom for presentation....

Phil

BTW the Crows have changed their habits and not coming in straight away, the Kites are therefore not arriving in any numbers till about 4.30 - 5.00 ish.

Good one Phil. I like the pose and the grassy backdrop.

Certainly a nice image Phil :wavey:

It's a wee bit tight for me but that's just me..

Lovely frame filling shot Phil. Also like the OOF background really sets it off.

hi phil

great shoot in flight, i know how difficult these shots are, kites are very quick, but you have got great detail, i wonder how many blurs you had, i certainly had a lot whilst at gilgrin

You cant be totally useless at flight shots otherwise you wouldn't have this Phil.
Its got to be like buses now you will just keep producing more and more.
Its a good looking image and the tightness seems to suit.

Major.

Nice one Phil, for me, just a little more around the Kite.

Hi Phil

I'm not the world's best at flight stuff either but you've pulled it off here. Nits covered but I'd add that I find the BG is too detailed and a larger aperture might have been a better option. That said, the f. stop used has produced a nice degree of sharp focus across the bird and you can't dictate what they fly in front of! Well done.

Cheers,
Chris

Nicely done Phil . Certainly a frame filler.

I like the way the light has caught the head and made the head ( and therefore the eye) really pop.

More space around would be preferred for my tastes.

That really does fill the frame as you described Phil and it's nice to see a Kite different from the normal 'postcard' shots you see from that very place. That said, i'd be happy to come away with a postcard shot as and when I visit that area..

Super detail on the bird and nice sense of the sweeping, beats of the wings..
