Lots of these about at the moment and I went out to photograph some damsels that frequent my local spot but the wind was to strong so failed in that respect.. The sun was setting low in the sky and gave some extremely warm light across the subjects so I was pleased to come away with one or two spiders..
I'm not so keen on this one Brett. The spider obviously has a good camo set up as it does seem a bit lost within the picture.

I like the idea of it, showing the spider and its lair, how they blend well together, but it all appears a bit flat on my screens. I'm used to Foveon® colours I suppose.

A very nice image Brett. I like the grass stem & how the Spider blends into it, it shows off its cammo very well.
Nice comp & bg
Nice, I like how the grass curves through the image, I do however think that a touch more DoF wouldn't go amiss just to bring the whole seed head into focus... certainly illustrates how well they can blend in perfectly.

A very nicely different garden spider image. Almost all images I've seen (and taken) show them in a web or busy making one. On windy days their webs often fall apart and I've never really thought much about where they hang out then. Nice light in this too.

Must admit bugs aint my bag but this is a simple but very effective shot. Nice one

With the exception of the DoF run-out which Phil mentions I think this is a cracking shot Brett - great colour and with that curve in the grass its got an interesting graphic element too.
If only you'd gone to say f14 I reckon you'de have nailed it sharp all over.
Nice BG too.
BTW - thanks for the book recomendations, I shall obtain "tout suite"

I think this is a great blend of browns and as mentioned the grasses bending over in the way they do add to it all. Well spotted Brett.

I agree with Major. Good complimentary colours and overall shape.
Thanks for sharing Brett.

Well composed with a great BG - I think spiders are one of the most difficult subjects to photograph well!
