Not that often that I manage to point my lens in the direction of birds but recently I've been trying to expand my horizons a little.. So here is a recent shot of a Spotted Flycatcher that I stumbled across whilst out and about with Tony Flashman.. I think I liked the fence rail as much as the bird, with all the lichen..
And there was me thinking you were refering to Southampton Football Club! (Oops, just outed myself as a fan of the nation's worst team!)
Cracking shot and the lichen on the perch adds a lot to the shot, as you say.
Cheers,

I agree with Ian ,maybe you should do far more avian judging by this.Super BG and catchlight . Harsh light by the looks too.Nice one, love the comp.

Your composition here is spot on,the perch is an 'image' within it's self IMO with the lichen etc,it add's a great deal to this image, detail in the bird is very good, and 10/10 for the bird as from my own knowledge and that of my 'birding' friends and reports, there has not been alot of SFC around this year Lovely image

Craig is right about the perch, the bird is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Excellent.

This really works for me - the three dimensions are faultless, perch, bird and background. A cracking composition.

Light is a bit harsh but I think you handeled it well. Enough detail in the dark site so well done.

Yes great subject, detail on perch and BKGR.
I think you could retain all these three key elements and crop in tighter.

Lovely job Brett, harsh light already mentioned, but handled very well! Nice minimal image.
Like it Brett.... as said the harsh light has been handled well, I might just crop to the bottom of the rail and a tad of the left, as presented the rail seems to be floating in mid air with nothing apparently supporting it, (does that make sense?)
