The sunrise two weekends ago over the cross near Manhattan was stunning. I don't think I've done it justice. This is 3 shots, merged in Photomatix. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Interesting shot. The sun through the clouds looks almost like fire in the sky. I wish the cross were a bit more rugged . . . not so neat and tidy.
As to the HDR, the foreground could have been a bit lighter . . . just enough to see some green in the grass. Except for the fire-in-the-sky, the overall image looks rather muted.

Rob, love the elements in this scene! I think I would like this one with the foreground and the cross silhouetted...something about crosses silhouetted...they tend to seem more "powerful" that way if that makes sense.

Daniel, you are right. When looking at it today, I see the muted colors, not sure why I didn't the other day.
Scott, I've been fighting with not silhouetting the cross/foreground, mostly because I don't recall it being that way that morning. However, I gave in to the temptation to silhouette them, and I like the results. I've been trying to keep detail in the cross in all the various series I shot, with minimal luck, most likely due to poor technique in the capture phase.
Here is a new version, allowing the cross and foreground to go dark. There is a slight bit of detail still visible in the upper cross.

Rob, the second image is certainly more vivid and has a more graphic impact with the pure black silhouettes. Nice capture.

Rob..I like the second one way better....The silhouette of the cross and the strong color make it much more attractive.
