Love the layers in this Mark, and the silhouettes of the trees add a nice dimension to the foreground.

Wow, what an interesting shot of St. Helens! Love the layers.

Nice one, Mark. Love the layering and the atmospherics create a mystical mood.

I'm off on a 7 day backpacking trip near Glacier Peak starting September 4th. In October, I'll be in Yosemite Valley, rock climbing, for the last three weeks. You'll probably see a flood of photos from me in the next few months.

I love the depth. I'm looking forward to the "flood of photos."

Except that they just came out with the better low light/smaller sensor G11.

I thought the same thing as soon as I bought my G9...

Marc---don't get rid of the G10-- yes the G11 will feature a less noisy sensor ( the G10 is just fine for my needs at ISO 200 & 400 thank you!). However, the MP is less than they had on the G9. You should ( I bet you have) seen the 18-24" prints shot on images at ISO 200 I see.
Canon may loose some non enthusiast sales because of the loss in MP, but since this is not my primary camera, and is just a "fun" camera that takes awesome w images, replacing this G10 is not high on my list.

I think you're right, Jack. I was out walking Ozzy the other day and banged off a photo of some flowers. I worked it a bit and printed it on a sheet of 13x19 paper. It's so damn sharp and detailed that I almost want to sell my D80 and D2x again!
I think this is the only camera I'll take to Yosemite this fall. I have a straight ballhead clamp plate that I may screw onto it for more formal "art" shots.

Wonderful image, Mark, proving you don't need the heavy and expensive equipment to do justice to what you're seeing.

I'm sort of in the same place of questioning my commitment to the DSLR arena. I love to photograph birds and wildlife but just cannot bring myself to spend the money it would require to get the 500 or 600mm lenses that make bird photography that much more feasible. I am also weary of lugging around the heavier stuff. I haven't decided what direction I'll take yet...

Interesting dialog, guys.

Mark, I'm excited for you about your trip. Sounds fun. I also cannot wait for that flood of photos to come! I might throw a few up myself as I am headed to the SW in September. I know everyone here has "seen it all" from those iconic locations, but I can't wait to get my OWN shots!

I hear such outrageous good things about the G10, and to know you get fantastic prints at substantial print size is so cool. I'll give an enthusiastic "hooray" for Canon even though I'm a Nikonian. Very tempting if considering having a light, small, camera you can take anywhere, anytime.
