From my trip to Vasquez Rocks this weekend. Does the cut off comp distract you? I didn't really have an option, and I think it'll be less distracting if it where matted/framed. But.. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Floris,

Love it. Tweak the color/sat a bit and you can really make a case for the flame reference. :-) But of course it's not necessary to change the colors or saturation.

As far as the tree being cut off? Doesn't bother me and it follows my simple thought: If you're going to cut something off, do it on purpose. A nice little consequence of cutting this off is that this now becomes a little bit more about light, form, patterns, than it does about a dead tree - if that makes sense.

Nicely crafted image Floris.

Thank you Lon, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm glad the focus on form and light works for you... as that's what I was trying to do

Impressive, Floris. I like the even lighting, textures, and assortment of lines.
The cutoff doesn't bother me.

The color is great. I love the simple contrast of the brownish tree against the yellow. What about a cut off of the bottom up to the tree trunk bases? That might make it more about simple lines and colors if that's your goal.

The cutoff doesn't necessarily bother me, because I like the way the dark tree limbs break up the nicely lit golden brush in the bg. I'm not sure a tighter crop would help, but I'd probably favor an image without those limbs peeking in from the bottom and that green plant in the ULC. That'd be my only suggestion to an otherwise well seen and captured image.

Thanks Eric - yea, those limbs on the bottom annoyed me too. It was a relatively sizable bush, and didn't want to uproot it  I'll see what I can do to minimize the impact of that green shrub. Thanks!

David - thanks for your thoughts. I think I like the balance offered by the foreground grasses, but I can see what you're thinking.

Works for me, Floris. I like it! The cutoff limbs are a non-issue.

Looks like the foxtails are the first thing to go there. Funny title since the place burned not too long ago. I think it works well with the light and shadow scattered throughout the frame.

They have have raptors there that they display out of the cage once every I think 3rd Saturday of the month there at oh around 11am.

The light, the patterns and the forms work really well for me, Floris. You composed this just right.

Nice work!

Very nice comp, and the colors convey the dryness and heat of the scene, but did you consider your title and the fact that the Station fire started the very next day? Not that I want to give you the heebe jeebes.
