Well, I have decided on a laptop that is light weight, fairly cheap for what you get, and with some of the recommendations given on this site. The reason I'm buying a laptop is for travel, specifically to Antarctica in about 5 weeks. I realize it is not a MacBook, or other computer with a gorgeous screen, but just wondering what some of you might think, or if I've missed something. I am a little concerned by the screen, but anything is better than what I use now. I looked at others...and HP gives one the most bang for the buck...this one is under 750.00. It has been an education researching laptops.

Reviews look good. As long as you aren't going to do any critical image editing, it should work just fine. You may want to purchase a mouse for it.
Seems like most computers for sale now come with a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it's released. You may want to pursue that option.

That should be a decent image editing laptop. You may want to eventually consider an external screen for working on images at home. I have a 22" monitor that I hook up to my laptop. The 4GB of ram will be nice for working with big files in photoshop. I am going a different route. I am currently purchasing a desktop computer because you generally get a more powerful computer for less money over a laptop. Plus I know how to build computers (its actually not as hard as you would think) so I can keep upgrading components on it rather than purchasing a whole new computer every time. Then I am going to sell my laptop which has been my main computer for a while and get a netbook for my portable computer since they are small, light and have great battery life.

The memory is nice. If you're anything like me, you might run out of hard drive pretty soon! unless you always shift stuff off your laptop onto another computer.

Maybe if you're going to Antarctica you'll need a "Toughbook" or something :-). Certainly some Sandisk Extreme III or Extreme IV cards :-).

Let us know how it goes!
