One from Saturday unfortunately none of them landed where the background was better :frown:

They are not easy when they settle with spread wings and finding a PoV that suits is difficult.

You have done well here, I wonder if the conditions allowed whether opening the lens up a bit and focus stacking would have been possible.

That is a very annoying habit that the Lestes damselflies have, sitting with their wings half open. Personally I think the background is good, but agree with Phil that a little bit of focus stacking (assuming the animal remained perched) would have improved the shot further.

Thankks for the replies :toast:

The little devil kept flying off to eat or defend his perch but always returned to the same place.

I have not tried focus stacking as yet altough I have downloaded a free programe to do it.

Hi Ian

Tricky shot when they are active, so well caught.

Along with other points raised, I'd add that I'd be tempted to re-crop if this isn't full-frame - more room bottom and right.

Cheers,
Chris

DOF is always going to be tricky at this angle. As Phil says focus stacking (if you had the time) could have worked well here. Agree with Chris re the cropping.

I like it especially those eyes - went looking for this species about a week ago but had no joy!

That’s a very nice shot , a tad more DoF would have been helpfull but the eyes have it.
