I've experimented with several stitching programs, and have settled on Panaorama Factory. The trial version had none of the problems encountered with PS Elements, and showed it is possible to basically double the resolution of my dslr, and requires only minimal effort. Only problem now is justifying a new camera to my wife. Thanks guys.
