recently back from a week up in the Cairngorms, absolutely beautiful up there when the weather is kind, not so nice in a howling gale and rain while tring to fix the tent in the middle of the night
plenty of ptarmigan though fairly patchy, and quite difficult to approach in there larger summer groups. Ocassionally you find a lone bird though which tend to be more tolerant, this male was quite relaxed with my company and i spent a pleasant afternoon photographing while it alternately ate and sat still
40D + 300mm F4L + 1.4 extender
slightest trim from top and bottom
have toned down yellow saturation too

Nice stuff, glad you had a good trip. The tent sounds like fun!
I think this is a very nice image Jack but with most of the background out of focus I think I would prefer the few blades of grass to be OOF as well. Just me probably

Very good focus on the eye and the rounded symmetry of the bird and boulders makes the image for me.
Very harmonic shot Jack.
Form and color,
wonderful wild life shot

Hi Jack
Very very nice - I like your composition and big in the frame for me works in this image. Love your low POV, the rounded curves of the bird and rocks together with an almost monochrome look!
