..if you are allergic to wasp stings. We were clearing R.ponticum in a wood today, when we found this wasps' nest in a hole in the ground. I had my Canon compact with me, so I set it to macro, stuck it in front of the entrance and hoped for the best. Out of seven attempts and two wasp stings I managed to get a half decent shot.IMHO

You suffered for your art then! Great record of a sight most of us would avoid like the plague.

Hello David.
I like this image and worth your efforts. But I think you must be mad or a better bloke than me sticking a compact camera into the entrance of a wasps nest.

Thanks for the comments folks. We were at Speke Hall, clearing R. Ponticum and the warden warned us about the wasps' nest. We found it fairly quickly and kept well away so as not to disturb them if possible.
In the interests of education I decided to risk a few shots and knowing that I'm fairly tolerant of a few wasp stings I chanced my arm. Though I did get stung twice on the neck from incoming wasps they weren't disturbed in the actual nest.
It's not a thing I would recommend unless you know what you are doing and/ or a little bit mad .
