At long last I have a half decent KF image. Many of my images of other species have been taken while waiting for one of these.
It is a bit of a large crop & the grass stem is a bit of a pain but I like how the image shows off the habitat of these birds. Taken today from an RSPB hide.

I suppose one could quibble about the stem you mentioned, but I really like this shot. Composition is really nice, and the bird is beautifully framed by the vegetation on right and left. Still awaiting my first decent Kingfisher shot!

Its really a shame about the strand of reed across him otherwise it would be great. Is there something going on in the top right hand corner there are two sticks petruding from the water which look exactly the same. Anyway congratulations on catching this elusive bird.

Thanks for the comments guys, Yes there are two sticks in the water at this spot & more in the surrounding area.
good luck on getting your first Jeremy.
Really like the surrounding vegetation. Think I might have cropped or cloned out the 2 sticks on the right but a very nice image. Haven't had a decent Kingfisher shot for about 2 years
It is a shame about the offending stem as the one used as a perch has a wonderful curve to it with a bridge like quality. I don’t like it, but cloning out the offender would work. Nice shot.

Warning! Kingfishers can be addictive. Looks almost like a fishing rod that the bird has perched on. I agree with Maggie re the 2 stems upper right.

It is a lovely composition, and it is hard work getting Kingfishers - and as Tony says they can be addictive. I love the natural feel to this image, I think I also would have cloned out the 2 sticks on the right.

Hello Lee.
Nits aside I really like this and when I think of a Kingfisher in its enviroment, this is the kind of setting that comes to mind.
